The Amazing Health Benefits of Summer

December 1, 2014

It’s hard not to love summer, the natural sunlight makes us feel so good. Summer is the perfect season to enjoy the extra health benefits that come with the warmth and sunshine!

Here are a few simple health benefits for you to keep in mind this Summer…

Vitamin D – Its completely free! With lots of sunny days, we have the luxury of replenishing our Vitamin D naturally. It’s one of the most important vitamins for all of us! It strengthens your immune system, plays a key role in cancer prevention, bone strength and building a healthy metabolism and overall good emotional health.

***Of course, always be sun smart and avoid exposing all of your skin to the sun rays + stay cool and shaded in the hottest part of the day.

Extra fresh fruits and vegetables! It’s the season our favourite fruits and vegetables go mad for! With lots of sunshine and warmth, our markets are full of the freshest produce to make delicious light meals, like our juices, smoothies and nutritious salads.

Get the body moving! The sunshine literally calls us outside! There are so many more ways to get active through summer, long walks, beach fun, bike riding and outdoor sports. Any physical activity is going to strengthen your heart, your bones, your immune system and muscles nad make you happy!

We naturally detox through sweating! Summer is the best time for the body to detoxify. You will find yourself sweating more than usual; this is a wonderful natural skill of the body. So don’t be shy, head outdoors and enjoy the sweat!

Fresh air Fresh air is so important to our health and so easy to get,  however many of us seem to forget this! We do most of our working and socialising indoors that we simply dont get enough of the fresh outdoors. This summer head outside at every opportunity to oxygenate the brain and to just enjoy the fresh air!

Why not make a few small changes this season? We suggest you turn off the television, put away the laptop and just get outside! Whether it’s spending time with friends and family outdoors, gardening, moving the body or just reading a book outside; any time spent in the sunshine will make you feel happy and healthy.

Remember to stay hydrated with fresh water, to enjoy the sun sensibly and to simply have fun!

Happy Summer!
